NXI-F1000 – Modular Measurement and Control Chassis with up to 17 Slots
For building modular test systems with configurable module combinations and integrated power for NXI measurement modules.
The NXI-F10xx chassis provide a common system platform for NXI measurement and control modules, from a single desktop slot to a 19-inch rack. Depending on the model, one, two, nine or 17 slots are available. The chassis provide mechanical housing, power, cooling and network connectivity; measurement and test functions depend on the installed modules.
All four chassis provide Ethernet and CAN connections for integrating compatible NXI modules into control systems.
F1020, F1030 and F1080 support installed module loads of up to 200, 500 and 1,000 W respectively.
F1030 and F1080 are 19-inch chassis in 2U and 4U formats and support synchronous triggering of multiple modules.

NXI-F10xx measurement and control chassis overview
NXI-F1010, NXI-F1020, NXI-F1030 and NXI-F1080 are chassis for compatible modular NXI measurement and control instruments. They provide slots, power, cooling, and LAN and CAN connections. This allows users to build both single-module desktop setups and multichannel automated test systems on the same platform. F1010 accommodates one 4HP module; F1020 accommodates two 4HP modules or one 8HP module. The 19-inch F1030 and F1080 offer nine and 17 slots respectively on a 4HP pitch. One slot in each of these models is intended for a control module, leaving eight or 16 slots for function modules. Selection therefore depends on module width, the required number of function modules, their combined power demand and the desired mounting format. Measurement ranges, accuracy and test routines are determined by the installed modules, rather than the chassis alone.
Key benefits
Choose the right size
Four chassis sizes cover a single desktop slot through a 17-slot rack, so the system can match the required module count.
Accommodate wider modules
F1020 accommodates either two 4HP modules or one 8HP module while keeping the desktop setup compact.
Connect over a network
Gigabit Ethernet ports connect the chassis to a host computer and support integration of compatible modules into automated test stations.
Electrical slot isolation
Electrical isolation between the respective slots is specified for F1020, F1030 and F1080.
Trigger modules together
F1030 and F1080 support synchronous triggering of multiple modules and provide connections for external trigger signals.
Mount in a rack
F1030 and F1080 are 19-inch chassis in 2U and 4U formats, with front and rear rack mounting support.
How the NXI chassis work
The chassis connect installed NXI modules to power and communication through the backplane. LAN and CAN are available for control and automation. The measurement, source, load or control function itself is provided by a compatible function module. The architecture of F1030 and F1080 provides for one control module and up to eight or 16 function modules respectively. Synchronous triggering specified for these two models supports coordinated operation across multiple modules.
Models and technical selection
| Model | Slots / modules | Module power | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| NXI-F1010 | 1 × 4HP; incompatible with NXI-3106 and NXI-3201 | External 12 V DC for chassis and fan | Desktop; 26.7 × 132.5 × 196.7 mm (H × W × D) |
| NXI-F1020 | 2 × 4HP or 1 × 8HP | Integrated; module load up to 200 W | Desktop; 44.5 × 170 × 275 mm (H × W × D) |
| NXI-F1030 | 9 × 4HP; 1 control module + up to 8 function modules | Integrated; module load up to 500 W | 19-inch, 2U; front or rear rack mounting |
| NXI-F1080 | 17 × 4HP; 1 control module + up to 16 function modules | Integrated; module load up to 1,000 W | 19-inch, 4U; front or rear rack mounting |
These wattage figures describe the load from installed modules that each chassis supports. They are not the output power of a measurement or power module. Check each planned combination against module compatibility and power demand.
Interfaces and system integration
| Feature | Models | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Gigabit Ethernet / LAN | All four | Network connection to a host computer; F1020 has separate LAN connections for its two module positions. |
| CAN | All four | CAN communication; F1010, F1030 and F1080 document switchable 120-ohm termination. F1020 provides CAN connections for cascading. |
| Synchronous triggering | F1030, F1080 | Coordinated control of several modules. External trigger inputs are described for both rack models. |
Mounting, power and cooling
F1010 uses separate 12 V DC connections for main operation and the fan. F1020, F1030 and F1080 have AC mains connections; their manuals specify 220 V AC. The two rack models use temperature-controlled fans; F1010 has a blow-through fan and F1020 an intelligent fan. Integration planning should account for airflow, the supply requirements of the chosen module combination and mechanical mounting. Modules must not be inserted or removed while power is applied to any of the four chassis.
Typical applications
Desktop tests with individual modules
F1010 and F1020 accommodate one or two narrow NXI modules respectively for compact laboratory setups.
Automated production testing
LAN connectivity and selectable module configurations support automated test and measurement systems.
Multichannel measurement systems
F1030 and F1080 combine up to eight or 16 function modules respectively in a 19-inch chassis.
Coordinated module operation
F1030 and F1080 support synchronous triggering when several installed modules need coordinated operation.
Frequently asked questions
Do the chassis contain measurement modules?
The chassis provide the platform. Measurement or control functions depend on separately selected, compatible NXI modules.
Which chassis accepts an 8HP module?
F1020 is documented to accept one 8HP module instead of two 4HP modules.
How many function modules fit in the rack models?
F1030 provides eight and F1080 16 function-module positions; one additional slot in each is intended for the control module.
Do all chassis need an external 12 V supply?
No. F1010 uses 12 V DC; F1020, F1030 and F1080 have an AC mains connection and integrated module power.
Are all NXI modules compatible with F1010?
No. NXI-3106 and NXI-3201 are expressly excluded for F1010. Check other combinations against the respective module requirements.
Can I exchange modules while power is on?
No. Disconnect power before inserting or removing modules.
Which chassis can be used in automated test systems?
All four models are described for integrated test setups; F1030 and F1080 additionally provide many function-module positions for multichannel systems.
Can I make a compact laboratory setup?
Yes. F1010 and F1020 are described for desktop tests and occupy only one or two 4HP module positions.
