NXI-6102/6103 high-voltage analogue input modules overview

The NXI-6102/6103 are eight-channel, 16-bit analogue input modules for acquiring DC and time-varying voltage signals. The largest selectable range extends to ±30 V on the NXI-6102-8/16 and ±60 V on the NXI-6103-8/16; both models also provide ±10 V, ±5 V, ±1 V and ±200 mV ranges. Each channel has its own SMB connector, with 300 V DC isolation between channels. Sampling reaches up to 100 kS/s per channel and 800 kS/s in total. The modules operate as single-slot cards in an NXI-F1000 measurement and control chassis or independently from a 12 V DC supply. LAN and CAN are available for remote control. Software and external triggering, internal or external clocking, and 4 MB × 8 acquisition memory support time-defined multi-channel measurements in laboratory, development and integration tasks.

Key benefits

Eight isolated inputs

Eight SMB channels with 300 V DC inter-channel isolation acquire signals at different potentials within the permissible input limits.

Fine measurement resolution

16-bit conversion and selectable ranges combine high-voltage acquisition with resolution down to 0.1 µV in the ±200 mV range.

Multi-channel acquisition

Up to 100 kS/s per channel and 800 kS/s in total enable parallel acquisition of eight analogue signals.

Triggered capture windows

Software and external triggers, rising or falling edges, and configurable delays position capture around the relevant event.

Synchronous sampling

Internal or external clock sources support coordinated measurements; the external clock is supplied through a suitable NXI chassis.

Chassis or standalone

The single-slot card uses the chassis backplane or operates separately from 12 V DC with LAN or CAN control.

Measurement and trigger principle

The eight analogue inputs connect through SMB. A suitable bipolar measurement range is selected for each enabled channel. Parallel acquisition provides up to 100 kS/s per channel, allowing multiple signal traces to be captured for joint evaluation. Input impedance is greater than 1 MΩ.

In addition to continuous or instant acquisition, the module supports software and external triggers. Rising or falling edges can act as trigger criteria. Sampling trigger settings include trigger level, 0 to 2.5% hysteresis and a delay of 0 to 512 sample-clock periods. Trigger On and Trigger Off sequences position a defined number of samples after or before the trigger event. An external sampling clock requires the corresponding connection through the NXI chassis.

Models and measurement ranges

ModelChannels / conversionSelectable measurement rangesMaximum input range
NXI-6102-8/168 channels / 16 bit±30 V, ±10 V, ±5 V, ±1 V, ±200 mV±32 V
NXI-6103-8/168 channels / 16 bit±60 V, ±10 V, ±5 V, ±1 V, ±200 mV±64 V

Model selection: The largest required signal excursion determines the choice between NXI-6102 and NXI-6103. Both models provide the same four narrower ranges for smaller signals.

Typical applications

High-voltage signal acquisition

The module digitises up to eight analogue voltages and provides model-dependent ranges up to ±30 V or ±60 V for larger signals.

Industrial control systems

Selectable ranges acquire analogue control and feedback signals, while LAN or CAN connects the module to the measurement setup.

Integrated test systems

The single-slot format, backplane connection and multi-channel acquisition support compact measurement and control architectures in an NXI system.

Teaching and research

Software configuration, selectable ranges and visible multi-channel traces support experimental setups and the evaluation of analogue signals.

Switch off the instrument before making or disconnecting connections. Standalone operation requires the 12 V DC supply, the selected communication link and the SMB signal cables. Measurement signals must remain within the input excursion permitted for the model and selected range.

NXI-6102/6103 FAQ

How do NXI-6102 and NXI-6103 differ?

The NXI-6102 provides a largest selectable range of ±30 V with a maximum ±32 V input. The NXI-6103 provides ±60 V and a maximum ±64 V input. Their four narrower ranges are identical.

Can all eight channels acquire simultaneously?

Yes. Parallel acquisition supports up to 100 kS/s per channel, corresponding to as much as 800 kS/s across all eight channels.

Can the module operate without an NXI chassis?

Yes. Standalone operation uses a 12 V DC input plus LAN or CAN. Chassis functions such as external clock input require a suitable NXI chassis.

What resolution is available in the ±200 mV range?

The specified resolution is 0.1 µV in the ±200 mV range. Resolution in the other measurement ranges is 0.1 mV.

Which trigger types are supported?

Software and external triggering are available. Depending on the acquisition mode, users can configure edge, trigger level, hysteresis, delay and the position of samples before or after the event.

How is an external sampling clock connected?

The external clock source connects to the NXI bus terminal of a suitable chassis. The exact pin assignment depends on the chassis used.

Can the module be used for automotive electronics testing?

Yes. It can acquire multiple analogue signals from vehicle electronics or controllers in parallel and align the measurement with a test event by triggering.

Can it be used in industrial control tests?

Yes. Selectable voltage ranges acquire analogue control and feedback signals, while LAN, CAN and the supported protocols provide system connectivity.

Is the series intended for teaching and research?

Yes. Multi-channel acquisition, range selection and configurable trigger functions support experimental measurement setups and analysis of analogue signal traces.
