N69200 overview

The N69200 is a programmable dissipative DC electronic load for power testing from 2 to 60 kW. Five voltage classes up to 2,400 V and current variants up to 2,500 A cover low-voltage, high-current and high-voltage applications. Units up to 6 kW use a compact 3U, 19-inch chassis, while higher power levels are built as modular configurations. Three setting and measurement ranges plus precise voltage and current measurement provide a broad operating area. Static and combined load characteristics are complemented by dynamic transitions, frequency sweeps, user-defined current waveforms, protection-function tests, and charge and discharge procedures. Master-master and master-slave connections support project-specific power expansion. This makes the series suitable for research and development, validation systems, production and end-of-line testing, and automated test equipment.

Key benefits

High power density

Up to 6 kW is available in a 3U, 19-inch chassis, reducing rack space in the test system.

Multi-range architecture

Three ranges each for voltage, current, power and resistance combine fine resolution with a broad usable test area.

Short-term overload

Loading at up to 1.6 times rated power for less than three seconds supports transient power testing.

Precise voltage measurement

Measurement accuracy of 0.015% + 0.015% F.S. supports reliable analysis at 23 ± 5 °C.

Precise current measurement

Current is acquired with an accuracy of 0.04% + 0.04% F.S. at 23 ± 5 °C.

Adjustable control response

Adjustable CV loop speed helps match different power supplies and reduce control-loop oscillation.

DC electronic load operating principle

The N69200 draws electrical energy from the connected device under test and converts it into heat within its load modules. Depending on the selected operating mode, it regulates current, voltage, power or resistance to the programmed setpoint. Combined modes add limiting or transition behavior to the basic characteristics, enabling a closer reproduction of real loads.

Remote sense is available for precise voltage measurement at high currents or with long cables. Separate sense leads measure voltage directly at the DUT and compensate for voltage drop across the load cables. An optional NP101 module enables loading down to 0 V with selected 150 V models.

Loading down to 0 V: The NP101 module is an optional extension for selected 150 V configurations. Remote sense is mandatory for this operating condition.

Power range and operating characteristic

The product family combines five voltage classes with different power and current ratings. Maximum current draw is determined by the current limit, rated power and minimum operating voltage of the selected model. Full rated current is therefore not available at every low-voltage operating point.

Voltage class Available power Maximum series current Smallest form factor Typical selection focus
150 V 2 to 60 kW up to 2,500 A 3U Low-voltage and high-current tests, batteries, fuel cells and power supplies
600 V 2 to 60 kW up to 2,500 A 3U DC links, charging electronics, industrial power supplies and energy systems
1,200 V 2 to 60 kW up to 2,400 A 3U High-voltage components, power electronics and electric drive systems
1,600 V 3 to 60 kW up to 720 A 3U High-voltage DC components, photovoltaic equipment and industrial power electronics
2,400 V 3 to 60 kW up to 720 A 3U High-voltage testing of converters, energy components and DC systems

Configurations range from 3U units to modular high-power systems. For example, 30 kW variants start at 15U and selected 60 kW variants start at 30U. The actual height depends on voltage class, current rating and module configuration.

Dynamic response and control behavior

Dynamic operation switches between two operating points and supports Continuous, Pulse and Toggle modes. Main value, transient value, pulse width, rise rate and fall rate can be programmed for dynamic current, voltage, resistance and power. The specified minimum rise time is 30 µs.

Fast load transitions

Dynamic operation up to 30 kHz tests control stability and transient response of power supplies.

Dynamic frequency sweep

Sampling at up to 500 kHz captures voltage peaks, voltage valleys and their corresponding frequency points.

Programmable current waveforms

Sine, square, triangle, ramp and user-defined waveforms reproduce repeatable current profiles.

Operating modes and programmable test functions

Function Technical purpose Typical use
CC Regulates the drawn current to a constant setpoint. Power supplies, batteries, fuel cells and current limiting
CV Regulates the load input voltage to a constant value. Chargers, current-regulated sources and battery charge profiles
CP Maintains constant input power as the input voltage changes. Server power, DC/DC converters and constant-power loads
CR Reproduces an adjustable resistive load. Source testing, start-up behavior and static load characteristics

Parallel operation and power expansion

Units with the same voltage class can be connected in parallel for higher current and power. The N69200 supports both master-master and master-slave configurations. The current setpoint is entered at the master, and the connected units distribute the load within the configured total power.

Master-master operation

Multiple master units connect through the parallel ports and are controlled together by one leading instrument.

The series includes models rated for 150 V, 600 V, 1,200 V, 1,600 V and 2,400 V.

Can the load operate down to 0 V?

Selected 150 V models support this with the optional NP101 module. Remote sense must be used.

Which operating modes are available?

The available modes are CC, CV, CP, CR, CV+CC, CR+CC, CV+CR and CP+CC.

Can the system be expanded?

Yes. Units with the same voltage class support parallel master-master or master-slave operation.

Which interfaces are standard?

LAN, RS232 and CAN are standard, together with USB Host, external programming, current monitor and trigger connections.

How can DUT protection thresholds be tested?

OCP and OPP tests increase current or power step by step and capture the DUT shutdown point.

Is internal-resistance measurement available?

The optional DCIR/ESR function determines the DC internal resistance of batteries and supercapacitors.

Is the N69200 suitable for automated test systems?

Yes. Remote-control protocols, stored parameter sets, sequences, trigger functions and PC software support ATE and EOL procedures.
