CC, CV, CP and CR plus four combined modes reproduce different load characteristics for power supplies and power electronics.
N69200 – Programmable DC Electronic Load up to 60 kW
For dynamic load and protection testing of DC power supplies and power components in automated test systems.
The N69200 combines programmable DC loading with three selectable ranges for voltage, current, power and resistance. Its modular design provides up to 6 kW in a 19-inch, 3U chassis and supports parallel operation to extend the available loading power.
Programmable load transitions and frequency sweeps up to 30 kHz support analysis of DC power supply control behaviour.
Discharge tests with termination conditions and OCP/OPP tests simplify the evaluation of energy storage devices and power supplies.
LAN, RS232 and CAN are standard; external CC programming, a current monitor and a trigger input provide additional integration options.

N69200 programmable DC electronic load overview
The N69200 series applies controlled loads to DC sources for development, laboratory and automated testing. The model range covers rated powers from 2 to 60 kW and voltage classes of 150, 600, 1,200, 1,600 and 2,400 V. Rated currents reach up to 2,500 A, depending on the model. Voltage, current and power must all match the operating point; their individual maximum ratings cannot be combined arbitrarily.
In addition to steady-state loading, the series supports dynamic load transitions, sequences, battery tests and protection threshold testing. Three selectable ranges for the basic operating modes help adapt the instrument to different measurement tasks. Remote sense measures voltage directly at the device under test. Operation is available from the front panel or through the communication interfaces. Units with the same voltage rating can be operated in master-master or master-slave parallel configurations for higher power.
Key benefits
Match the measurement range
Three ranges for voltage, current, power and resistance allow settings and measurements to be adapted to the device under test.
Adjust control behaviour
Adjustable CV loop speed helps match the load to different power supplies.
Repeat test routines
Sequences and Auto Test combine load steps with voltage, current or power limit checks and PASS/FAIL evaluation.
Measure at the DUT
Separate S+/S− sense leads reduce the influence of voltage drops in the load cables on voltage measurement.
Evaluate internal resistance
The optional DCIR/ESR function determines the equivalent DC internal resistance of batteries and supercapacitors from the voltage change under current loading.
Recall settings quickly
100 non-volatile parameter sets simplify switching between recurring test tasks.
Operating principle and modes
The electronic load draws current from the connected device under test. Within its operating limits, it regulates current, voltage, resistance or power to the selected setpoint.
| Mode | Operation |
|---|---|
| CC / CV | Constant load current or input voltage regulation by adjusting the current drawn. |
| CR / CP | Resistive characteristic with I = U/R or constant power loading with I = P/U. |
| CV+CC | Combined voltage and current control; transition to CC requires CV operating power below 600 W. |
| CR+CC / CP+CC | Resistance or power operation with current limiting. |
| CV+CR | Combined voltage and resistance characteristic. |
Power range and model selection
The tables list rated power, voltage class and rated current for all standard models. The 1,200 V versions are available with two different current ratings. High-voltage models rated at 1,600 or 2,400 V cover 3 to 50 kW.

For U > 0, the upper limit is I ≤ min(I-rated, P-available/U). Minimum operating voltage, the operating characteristic and temperature derating must also be observed. A voltage range starting at 0 V does not imply that rated current is available down to 0 V.
Dynamic operation and control behaviour
CCD, CVD, CRD and CPD provide dynamic transitions in current, voltage, resistance and power modes. Continuous operation and triggered Pulse and Toggle modes are available. Adjustable rise and fall slew rates define the transitions. Dynamic frequency sweeps extend up to 30 kHz; the achievable waveform depends on the model, range, slew settings and test setup.
For the N69202-150-200, voltage readback accuracy is 0.015% + 0.015% F.S. and current readback accuracy is 0.04% + 0.04% F.S. Setting accuracy is 0.025% + 0.025% F.S. in CV mode and 0.05% + 0.05% F.S. in CC mode. Conditions are 23 ± 5 °C, relative humidity up to 80% and operation within one year after calibration. F.S. denotes the full-scale value of the selected range.

Interfaces, software and automation
| Equipment | Function |
|---|---|
| LAN, RS232, CAN – standard | Remote control and test integration. Supported protocols: SCPI, Modbus-RTU and CANopen; configure the appropriate port and protocol. |
| Analogue CC programming – standard | 0–10 V at EXT-IN+/EXT-IN− corresponds to zero through full scale of the selected current range; available in CC mode only. |
| Current monitor – standard | 0–10 V output proportional to the load current in the selected current range. |
| External trigger – standard | 5 V TTL-compatible input for triggered routines and external load control. |
| USB Host – standard | Import waveform data from a USB flash drive. |

Parallel operation and low-voltage option
Units with the same voltage specification support master-master or master-slave parallel operation. The leading master sets the current and distributes the load across the connected units. Unit count, wiring and total power must be engineered for the specific configuration.
For selected 150 V models, an optional NP101 module enables loading down to 0 V: N69206-150-600 with NP101-600, N69208-150-800 with NP101-800, N69210-150-1000 with NP101-1000 and N69212-150-1200 with NP101-1200.
Installation and infrastructure
| Item | Configuration and conditions |
|---|---|
| 3U base units | 19-inch; 132.5 × 482 × 783.8 mm (H × W × D), including handles and terminal cover. |
| Auxiliary supply for 3U units | 220 V AC ± 10%, 47–63 Hz; observe the input rating marked on the specific unit. |
| Temperature and power | Operation at 0–40 °C; 100% rated power up to 30 °C inlet air temperature, 85% at 40 °C. Size test system heat removal accordingly. |
| Environment | Altitude below 2,000 m; 5–90% relative humidity, non-condensing. |
| DUT connection | Size load cables for test current and short-circuit loading; use separate sense leads for accurate voltage measurement. |
Protection functions
Programmable OCP, OVP and OPP thresholds stop loading when triggered. Temperature monitoring and module overheat protection stop current draw during overheating. Detected reverse polarity produces a visual and audible alarm. VON/VOFF, timed unloading and Soft On/Off provide additional control of the load routine.
N69200 frequently asked questions
Can maximum voltage and current be used simultaneously?
Only when voltage multiplied by current remains within the available power and the permitted operating characteristic is observed.
Is rated current available down to 0 V?
Selected 150 V models require the matching optional NP101 module for this. Without the additional module, the model-specific minimum operating voltage applies.
Can current be programmed through an analogue signal?
Yes. In CC mode, 0–10 V at the external programming input maps the selected current range from zero to full scale.
How are custom current profiles imported?
The optional CCD WAVE function processes user-defined CSV waveforms imported from a USB flash drive.
Can loading power be expanded?
Yes. Units with the same voltage rating support master-master and master-slave parallel operation with central current settings.
Can the N69200 test batteries and supercapacitors?
Yes. Discharge testing supports voltage, time and capacity termination conditions. Charging tests additionally require an external power supply connected in series.
Is the series suitable for power supplies and DC/DC converters?
Yes. Steady-state modes, dynamic load transitions and OCP/OPP tests support evaluation of the DC output.
Can it determine the maximum power point of PV modules?
Yes. The MPPT function determines the maximum power point and its corresponding voltage and current through a CV-based voltage sweep.
