CC, CV, CR and CP plus four combined modes provide different static load characteristics for testing power supplies.
N61100 – Programmable Multichannel DC Load for Parallel Testing
For parallel testing of power supplies, DC/DC converters and LED drivers with isolated load channels and automated test sequences.
The N61100 series combines several programmable DC load channels in a 19-inch, 3U enclosure. Depending on the model, 2, 4, 6 or 12 channels are available. This architecture allows multi-output power supplies and multiple devices under test to share a common operating and communication platform.
Dynamic load changes, frequency sweeps and programmable sequences support analysis of control behaviour under varying load conditions.
LED simulation tests drivers under defined load conditions; discharge tests measure time and capacity for batteries or supercapacitors.
LAN, RS232 and RS485 enable remote control. SCPI and Modbus-RTU are available for integration into test systems.

N61100 multi-channel DC electronic load overview
The N61100 is a programmable DC electronic load for applying controlled loads to DC sources. It draws energy from the device under test and regulates current, voltage, resistance or power within its permitted operating range. The series includes voltage versions up to 80 V, 150 V or 600 V. Depending on the model, it provides 150 W with 12 channels, 300 W with 6 channels, 540 W with 4 channels or 900 W with 2 channels; each power rating applies per channel. The multi-channel architecture supports synchronous loading and a common display of channel readings. A 4.3-inch LCD, function keys and rotary knob provide local operation. For repeatable tests, combined load modes, automatic routines, measurement functions and remote control complement the basic static modes.
Key benefits
Test outputs together
Synchronous loading and the All View display simplify testing multiple supply outputs and comparing their readings.
Select the right range
Dual ranges for voltage, current, power and resistance allow settings and measurements to be matched to the operating point.
Adapt the control loop
Adjustable CV response speed and CV Auto help match the load control loop to the connected power supply.
Check limits automatically
Up to 10 auto test files with up to 200 steps each combine load settings with limit checks for voltage, current or power.
Measure ripple
Ripple measurement displays peak and peak-to-peak voltage and current values with a measurement bandwidth of 10 Hz to 100 kHz.
Measure at the DUT
Remote sense measures voltage at the DUT output and reduces the influence of voltage drop across the load leads.

| N61104-600-15 | 4 | 600 V | 15 A | 540 W |
| N61102-80-120 | 2 | 80 V | 120 A | 900 W |
| N61102-150-120 | 2 | 150 V | 120 A | 900 W |
| N61102-600-30 | 2 | 600 V | 30 A | 900 W |
Voltage, current and power limits must all be respected on each channel. Their maximum values therefore cannot be combined arbitrarily. At low voltages, the current-dependent minimum operating voltage also applies: the 80 V and 150 V versions require 1 V at rated current, while the 600 V versions require 1.5 V.
Operating modes and principle
| Operating mode | Operation |
|---|---|
| CC / CV | Constant current or controlled input voltage by adjusting the current drawn from the source. |
| CR / CP | Resistive behaviour or constant power consumption as the input voltage changes. |
| CV+CC | Constant voltage with current limiting, including simulation of operating-mode transitions during battery charging. |
| CR+CC | Resistive loading with current limiting for power supply start-up tests. |
| CP+CC | Constant power with current limiting as the input voltage decreases. |
| CV+CR | Combined constant-voltage and resistive behaviour. |
Dynamic operation and measurement
Dynamic tests are available in CC, CV, CR and CP modes. CC operation supports load changes up to 30 kHz. The frequency sweep varies the load frequency between adjustable start and end values to identify critical voltage responses. Rise and fall slew rates are adjustable; achievable dynamic performance depends on the model, range, operating point and connection inductance.
Voltage and current sampling reaches up to 500 kHz. This sampling rate is distinct from the load switching frequency and ripple measurement bandwidth. Time measurements and a Load Effect function are also available to investigate output voltage changes as the load changes. Load Effect requires four-wire sensing.
Programmable tests
| Function | Test task |
|---|---|
| LED simulation | Replicates LED loading at the operating point using operating voltage, current and resistance coefficient. |
| Discharge test | Discharge with a current setting; termination by end voltage, time or discharged capacity. Displays discharge time and capacity. |
| OCP / OPP | Stepped loading to determine the DUT overcurrent or overpower protection point. |
| OVP test | Captures voltage peak and response time during a DUT overvoltage protection event. |
| SEQ / Auto Test | Programmable load sequences; Auto Test adds limit checks to the routine. |
| Von / Voff | Voltage-dependent load activation and deactivation in CC mode with latch and unlatch behaviour. |
| SZ / short-circuit simulation | Impedance simulation with R, L and C parameters, plus separate electronic short-circuit simulation within the instrument limits. |
Typical applications
LED drivers
Defined equivalent LED loads support testing driver behaviour at the selected operating point and investigating ripple current.
Power supplies and chargers
Combined modes support start-up testing and simulation of charging transitions; OCP tests determine the overcurrent protection point.
Batteries and supercapacitors
The discharge test loads the energy storage device at a specified current and ends when a configured termination criterion is reached.
Automated electrical test routines
Auto Test combines defined load steps with limit checks. Multi-channel operation and remote control support integration into recurring test tasks.
Interfaces, software and integration
| Equipment | Status and function |
|---|---|
| LAN, RS232, RS485 | Built-in communication interfaces for remote control and reading measured values. |
| SCPI, Modbus-RTU | Supported control protocols; communication parameters must be configured to suit the selected connection. |
| External control input | Compatible with 5 V TTL levels; toggle or hold behaviour for external load control. |
| PC test software | Channel and instrument configuration, remote operation and data logging; connection via Ethernet. |
| NE101, optional | Separate converter for RS232-to-GPIB connectivity. |
| Accessories, optional | Rack mounting kit and load leads in 2 m or 4 m lengths available separately. |
Installation and protection functions
The series uses a 19-inch, 3U enclosure and a single-phase auxiliary supply of 100–240 V AC at 47–63 Hz. The operating temperature range is 0–40 °C; the 0–25 °C condition must be observed for full power. Keep ventilation openings clear and select load leads to suit the current, lead length and required dynamic performance.
Adjustable OVP, OCP and OPP limits turn the load off when triggered. Overtemperature also stops loading. Reverse-polarity alarms indicate detected reverse voltage or current direction; they do not replace correct wiring or permit operation with reversed polarity. Configurable communication monitoring can turn the load off if communication is lost.
N61100 frequently asked questions
Do the power ratings apply to the entire instrument?
No. 150 W, 300 W, 540 W and 900 W are the per-channel ratings of the respective model groups. The channel count is specified separately.
Are 600 V and 120 A available simultaneously?
No. 120 A per channel applies to the 80 V and 150 V two-channel models. The 600 V two-channel version provides 30 A and 900 W per channel.
Can the load operate at rated current down to 0 V?
No. At rated current, the 80 V and 150 V models require at least 1 V, while the 600 V models require at least 1.5 V.
When should remote sense be used?
For precise voltage measurement and in CV, CR and CP modes. Load Effect measurement requires a four-wire connection.
What do 30 kHz and 500 kHz mean?
30 kHz is the maximum CC load switching frequency. 500 kHz is the maximum voltage and current sampling rate; ripple measurement bandwidth is 10 Hz to 100 kHz.
Can LED drivers be tested?
Yes. LED mode reproduces an equivalent LED characteristic at the operating point. Voltage, current and resistance coefficient define the load.
Can charging transitions be simulated?
Yes. CV+CC supports simulation of operating-mode transitions during battery charging. The N61100 acts as an electronic load.
How are start-up tests supported?
CR+CC starts with a resistive characteristic and limits current when the set limit is reached. This allows controlled loading during power supply start-up.
