N3200 high-voltage DC power supply overview
The N3200 programmable high-voltage DC power supply is designed for tests that combine high voltage with low current. Three single-channel models cover positive and negative voltage ranges up to 2.5 kV, 5 kV or 10 kV. The two lower voltage classes deliver up to 25 W, while the 10 kV version provides up to 20 W. Applications include breakdown testing of high-voltage components, insulation testing, leakage current measurements and investigations of high-resistivity materials. Voltage can be adjusted from 0 V in the selected polarity. Source mode provides defined operating points, while sweep mode changes voltage in steps. Operation is available locally through the LCD, keys and rotary knob, or remotely through the communication and analogue connections. Rear high-voltage terminals and the compact enclosure support integration into laboratory or automated high-voltage test systems.
Key benefits
Set small increments
Voltage setting and readback resolution is 0.1 V up to 5 kV and 1 V on the 10 kV model. Current resolution is 0.1 µA across all models.
Low output ripple
Ripple is at most 3 mV RMS up to 5 kV and at most 10 mV RMS at 10 kV, measured with a filter from 20 Hz to 20 MHz. This supports sensitive measurement setups.
Select output polarity
The Output Reverse function selects output polarity. Positive and negative test voltages can be set within the voltage range of each model.
Change test voltage in steps
Sweep mode combines voltage limits, increment and time interval. Defined voltage sequences can be reused for component investigations.
Connect analogue measurement chains
VSET for voltage programming and VMON and IMON for monitoring enable integration with analogue control and data acquisition systems.
Document measurement trends
The PC software displays voltage and current traces and stores readings. Export and historical data viewing support subsequent analysis.
Operating principle and output polarity
Source mode provides settings for output voltage and current parameters. Output Reverse selects the positive or negative output direction; the ± rating describes these selectable voltage ranges of a single channel. In sweep mode, I-Out limits current while the output voltage changes in predefined steps. Adjustable voltage and current trip thresholds complement these settings.
Models and output ratings
| Model | Adjustable output voltage | Max. current | Rated power | Channels |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| N3225-2.5K-M010 | −2,500 to 0 V / 0 to +2,500 V | 10 mA | 25 W | 1 |
| N3225-5K-M005 | −5,000 to 0 V / 0 to +5,000 V | 5 mA | 25 W | 1 |
| N3225-10K-M002 | −10,000 to 0 V / 0 to +10,000 V | 2 mA | 20 W | 1 |
Select voltage and current together for each model: the highest voltage of 10 kV is available from the N3225-10K-M002 at up to 2 mA. The 10 mA rating of the N3225-2.5K-M010 applies within its voltage range up to 2.5 kV.
Resolution, ripple and dynamic behaviour
| Parameter | N3225-2.5K-M010 | N3225-5K-M005 | N3225-10K-M002 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Voltage resolution, setting / readback | 0.1 V | 0.1 V | 1 V |
| Current resolution, setting / readback | 0.1 µA | 0.1 µA | 0.1 µA |
| Ripple, 20 Hz–20 MHz, with filter | ≤15 mV peak-to-peak / ≤3 mV RMS | ≤30 mV peak-to-peak / ≤3 mV RMS | ≤50 mV peak-to-peak / ≤10 mV RMS |
| Voltage rise, 10–90% F.S., no load or full load | ≤3 s | ≤4 s | ≤8 s |
| Voltage fall, 90–10% F.S., no load | ≤15 s | ≤30 s | ≤60 s |
| Voltage fall, 90–10% F.S., full load | ≤3 s | ≤3 s | ≤3 s |
F.S. denotes the respective full-scale value. Voltage line regulation and load regulation are each ≤0.01%. Resolution and accuracy are separate specifications. The longer no-load fall times must be considered when defining test and waiting times.

N3200 series FAQ
Which version reaches 10 kV?
The N3225-10K-M002 provides one channel covering −10,000 to 0 V or 0 to +10,000 V, with a maximum current of 2 mA and rated power of 20 W.
Can the output voltage be set to 0 V?
Yes. All three models can be adjusted down to 0 V in the selected positive or negative polarity.
What does ±2.5 kV, ±5 kV or ±10 kV mean?
It specifies the positive and negative voltage range of each model. Output Reverse selects the output direction; each instrument has one channel.
Can an external voltage control the output?
Yes. With external programming enabled, a 0–10 V signal at VSET controls output voltage. VMON and IMON separately monitor voltage and current.
Is GPIB built in?
The digital instrument interfaces are LAN and RS232. GPIB requires the optional NE101 converter, which is sold separately.
Can readings be saved?
The PC software records voltage and current values, displays traces and historical data, and supports export as an Excel file.
Can N3200 be used for IGBT breakdown testing?
Yes, breakdown testing of high-voltage components is an application. The required test voltage and current limit must remain within the selected model range.
Can the series be used for leakage current measurements?
Yes. It supplies the DC test voltage and provides current readback with 0.1 µA resolution. The required accuracy of the complete measurement setup must be assessed separately.
Are insulation and resistance investigations possible?
Yes. Insulation testing and high-resistance investigations are applications. The power supply provides the adjustable high voltage; test voltage, measurement range and setup must be matched to the DUT.
