LAB/HP series overview
LAB/HP is a programmable, switch-mode high-power DC power supply series for development, test and power-delivery systems. Power classes range from 3 to 63 kW, with rated output voltages up to 1,500 V depending on the selected version. Units are supplied as 19-inch rack devices with heights of 2, 3, 6 or 9 U and can be controlled from the front panel, by analogue signals or through digital interfaces. In addition to standard UI operation, the platform provides power limiting, simulated internal resistance, PV characteristics and user-defined UI curves. An ATE version without manual front-panel operation is available for automated equipment. Up can be coordinated in parallel, series or independent master/slave configurations.
Technical classification: LAB/HP operates as a unidirectional DC source. Regenerative sink operation and energy feedback into the AC grid are not part of the specified functionality.
Key benefits
Power classes from 3 to 63 kW
Multiple enclosure and power configurations support compact laboratory installations as well as larger high-power test systems.
Output voltages up to 1,500 V
Different voltage classes cover low-voltage, high-current and high-voltage requirements within the same product family.
Typical efficiency
A typical efficiency of 94% reduces the amount of power converted into heat inside the test installation.
Fast dynamic recovery
A recovery time below 3 ms is specified after dynamic load changes, subject to the unit and test configuration.
Defined set-value accuracy
Set-value accuracy is 0.1% for voltage and 0.2% for current.
Consistent rack integration
The 19-inch format simplifies installation in laboratory racks, ATE equipment and customised test cabinets.
High-power DC source operating principle
LAB/HP converts the incoming AC supply into a regulated DC output through a switch-mode AC/DC power stage. Voltage and current are continuously fed back and limited according to the programmed values. Depending on the selected mode, additional digital controllers calculate power-dependent, resistance-dependent or characteristic-dependent setpoints.
Values can be programmed locally, through an optional analogue interface or through a digital communication interface. Output voltage, current, power and calculated load resistance can be displayed locally or read remotely.
Voltage and current regulation
Standard UI operation provides programmable output voltage with adjustable current limiting.
Additional digital control loops
UIP, UIR and PVSim add power-, resistance- or characteristic-dependent calculations to the primary regulator.
Power range and available configurations
The series is available in graduated power classes. Rated voltage, rated current and output power depend on the selected unit. The required operating point must therefore remain within the voltage, current and power limits of the specific configuration.
| Output power | Rack height | Enclosure depth | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 to 7 kW | 2 U | 440 mm | 14 kg |
| 10 kW | 3 U | 620 mm | 26 kg |
| 15 kW | 3 U | 620 mm | 26 kg |
| 21 kW | 3 U | 620 mm | 37 kg |
| 30 kW | 6 U | 620 mm | 52 kg |
| 35 kW | 6 U | 620 mm | 59 kg |
| 45 kW | 6 U | 620 mm | 73 kg |
| 49 kW | 6 U | 620 mm | 85 kg |
| 56 kW | 9 U | 620 mm | 92 kg |
| 63 kW | 9 U | 620 mm | 99 kg |
The output voltage range extends up to 1,500 V depending on the model. Ripple, current range, rise time and fall time vary with the selected voltage class.
Dynamic performance and regulation
Dynamic characteristics are specified according to the rated voltage class. Full-load rise times range from 6 to 40 ms depending on the model. Recovery after a dynamic load change is specified at below 3 ms until the output voltage returns to the stated tolerance band.
