KGS bidirectional AC/DC source and load overview
The KGS series is a modular bidirectional AC/DC power system based on SiC MOSFET PWM technology. It operates as a programmable source or regenerative load and provides AC, DC and AC+DC outputs. The documented power range extends from 15 kVA to 1,080 kVA, while the listed standard models cover KGS 15 through KGS 540. AC applications support up to 450 V L-N and frequencies from DC to 5 kHz. In DC operation, each 15 kW module provides up to 636 V with bidirectional current up to ±70 A per channel. The three phases can be programmed independently or paralleled for a single-phase output. Grid simulation, regenerative load modes, sequences, harmonics and inter-harmonics, plus analog power-amplifier operation make KGS a versatile platform for development, validation and automated test systems.
Key benefits
Source and regenerative load
Bidirectional AC/DC operation enables transitions between delivering and absorbing energy within one system.
Wide frequency range
AC output from DC to 5 kHz and 10 kHz small-signal bandwidth support grid and aircraft-bus simulations.
Independent phases
Voltage, phase angle and other parameters are programmable per phase; paralleling creates a high-current single-phase output.
Repeatable sequences
Multi-step profiles control voltage, frequency, phase angle, ramp and dwell times for dynamic test routines.
Harmonics and inter-harmonics
Up to the 100th harmonic and eight inter-harmonic channels can be edited by amplitude and phase.
Open test-system integration
LAN, RS485, ATI, TTL and SCPI complement local TFT touch operation for automated test systems.
Operating principle and modes
The bidirectional power stage operates as an AC/DC source or regenerative electronic load depending on the test scenario. AC, DC and AC+DC are available in source operation, with CV or CC regulation. Load operation provides CC, CP and CR modes as well as complex RLC and non-linear RCD topologies. A crest factor from 1.414 to 3 can be superimposed on CC and CP load profiles.
| Function | Settings | Technical purpose |

| Regenerative AC load | CC, CP, CR, crest factor and leading/lagging phase angle | Linear, capacitive, inductive and rectifier-type load conditions |
| RLC/RCD simulation | 12 RLC and 4 RCD topologies, parameterized separately per phase | Repeatable complex and non-linear load emulation |
| ATI power amplifier | Analog setpoint via BNC, ±5 V | Reproduction of external waveforms with no more than 20 µs delay |

AC accuracy depends on frequency. Between 45 and 70 Hz, voltage, current and power accuracy are each specified as 0.1% FS; the higher values stated in the technical data apply outside this range. AC voltage THD is below 0.3% FS at 15–50 Hz and below 0.4% FS at 50–500 Hz, measured at 250 V L-N with a resistive load.

For single-phase operation, the three phase outputs are connected in parallel, tripling the available output current relative to the stated three-phase current per phase. Parallel operation of multiple systems requires identical units with the same power, voltage and current ratings.
