EAC-S overview
The EAC-S is a programmable single-phase AC source for laboratories, industry and service engineering. Twelve models provide 250 to 10,000 VA, with rated currents from 3 to 80 A. The standard output covers 0–300 V AC and 0–425 V DC. Options extend the range to 500 or 700 V AC and 700 or 1,000 V DC, with a reduced current limit in each case. In addition to pure AC and DC signals, the source can superimpose an adjustable DC component on an AC waveform. Sine, square and triangle can be selected directly; three non-volatile memory locations store user-defined waveforms. The standard frequency range extends to 500 Hz, with optional extensions to 1,000 or 2,000 Hz. Operation and measurement display are available at the front panel. Automated test systems can use optional analog and digital interfaces, synchronization, external signals, and SD-card-based waveform, script and data-logging functions.
Key benefits
Reproduce diverse supply conditions
AC, DC and mixed AC+DC signals enable investigation of alternating voltage, DC components and superimposed waveforms with one source.
Broadly graduated power range
Twelve models from 250 to 10,000 VA help match power, current, rack height and mains connection to the test system.
Standard and custom waveforms
Sine, square, triangle and three stored 16-bit waveforms with 3,600 points support reproducible signal profiles.
Integrated electrical measurements
The display covers RMS, DC and peak values as well as active, reactive and apparent power, power factor and crest factor.
Sequences without a control PC
The optional SD card executes scripts with up to 100 commands and logs measurement values at adjustable intervals.
Ready for test-system integration
Optional analog, serial, USB, LAN and IEEE-488 interfaces plus sync I/O connect setpoints, status and measurements to automation.
Linear technology compared with switch-mode sources
The EAC-S uses a linear output stage in which an analog power amplifier continuously reproduces the specified waveform at the output. In contrast, switch-mode sources generate their output voltage by rapidly switching the power semiconductors. Linear technology supports a particularly clean waveform with low levels of switching-related high-frequency components, making it especially suitable for sensitive measurement, development and testing applications. Switch-mode sources generally offer higher efficiency, lower heat dissipation and more compact dimensions. The preferred technology therefore depends on whether signal quality or energy efficiency and power density are the primary consideration.
Operating principle of the single-phase AC source
After galvanic isolation, the supply voltage is rectified and feeds an analog power amplifier. Its target waveform comes from a table containing one complete period. The table can represent a fixed waveform, a stored user-defined curve or, with the corresponding option, an external oscillator signal. Amplitude and limiting settings determine the output signal.
In voltage mode, the output voltage follows the selected waveform; if the set RMS current is exceeded, the source reduces the amplitude. The DC component is set with its own polarity and added to the AC component. Depending on the installed equipment, setpoints can be supplied from the front panel, analog I/O, a digital interface or the memory card.

Select the correct configuration: The maximum voltage and current values describe the limits of each instrument. The rated apparent power additionally limits the permissible operating point. With the /V500 and /V700 options, maximum current is reduced by 40 and 50%, respectively.

Protection and safety functions
The EAC-S monitors overtemperature and overpower conditions. If the permissible power is exceeded, the instrument reduces or disables the output depending on the magnitude and duration of the overload. Short-term peak power is specified for the EAC-S 250 through EAC-S 3000 models and may be applied for no more than ten seconds.
An interlock input is available as an option. It switches the power transformer on the primary side through a contactor, but does not provide output isolation according to VDE. These instrument functions therefore do not replace the higher-level safety concept of the test system.
EAC-S FAQ
How is the correct EAC-S model selected?
Determine the highest simultaneous operating point for voltage, current and apparent power, plus frequency, waveform, installation dimensions and available mains connection. Account for the reduced current limit of the 500 and 700 V options.
Can the EAC-S output pure DC voltage?
Yes. The output supports AC, DC and AC+DC operation. In mixed-signal operation, the selected DC component is added to the AC waveform.
Which waveforms are available?
Sine, square and triangle are directly selectable. Three custom WAV curves can also be stored internally, or curves can be loaded through the optional memory card or a digital interface.
Which values does the source measure?
Measurements include RMS, DC and peak voltage and current as well as active, reactive and apparent power, power factor, crest factor and frequency.
Can the EAC-S simulate a single-phase mains supply?
Yes. Voltage, frequency and waveform are programmable, and a DC component can be superimposed. The selected operating point must remain within the voltage, current and power limits.
Can defined voltage interruptions be generated?
Yes. The DIP option disables the output for a defined number of half-periods. DIP and the time-dependent GATE and pulse functions require a digital interface.
Can a test sequence run independently without a PC?
With the optional SD card, scripts containing up to 100 commands can be executed and measurements can be logged. This supports repeatable standalone sequences.
